CA Unlawful Detainers are a very specific type of Eviction service, and have many specific requirements in California. Proof's clients expect that Unlawful Detainer jobs will be handled with care and accuracy to ensure successful service.

Top Tips: CA Unlawful Detainers must be attempted within 48 hours of acceptance, and the documents must be mailed on the SAME DAY that service is made.

Personal Services

These jobs are listed as Standard Jobs in the Proof mobile app, with all client specifications provided in the job offer details. Please only accept these jobs if you can fully meet all of the client requirements outlined below.

1. Service Attempt Times:

  • You must attempt service once before 8:00 AM and again after 6:00 PM.

2. Serving All Unknown Occupants:

  • You can serve an Unknown Occupant only after all named defendants have been served.

  • Once the Unknown Occupant is served:

    • Post a copy of the documents on the door.

    • Mail another copy to the service address on the SAME DAY (ensure you use a stamp and envelope and drop it in the mail).

Top Tips: These are NEVER a wrong address on these jobs - if a resident states that the named servee does not reside, we must still Sub-serve and/or Post the documents, and mail on the SAME DAY.

3. Sub-Service:

  • Sub-service (service on a named defendant) can only occur on the 3rd or 4th attempt.

  • Once served:

    • Mail a copy of the documents to the service address on the SAME DAY (using a stamp and envelope, drop it in the mail).

4. Mailing Requirement:

  • Mailing must be completed on the SAME DAY as service.

  • After mailing, send a message through the In-Job Chat with the date and city you mailed from. Affidavits cannot be generated for these jobs until this information is provided.

Posting Services

These jobs are listed as Post Jobs in the Proof mobile app, with all client specifications provided in the job offer details. Please only accept these jobs if you can fully meet all of the client requirements outlined below.

1. Knock and Attempt Service:

  • Start by knocking and attempting personal service or sub-service.

  • If no one answers the door, post the documents on the door and take a photo of the posted documents. If possible, include the door/unit number in the photo.

2. Posting Documents:

  • Post one set of documents per job side by side on the door.

3. Certified Mailing:

  • Certified mailing must be completed on the SAME DAY you post the documents.

    • Use First Class mail with a green card (completed) and request return receipt.

    • After mailing, send the green card and post office receipt to the Proof Specialist via text or email. You will be compensated for doing this.

4. Green Card Requirement:

  • There must be one green card for each servee.

  • The client requires a clear photo showing the details on each green card.

Important Note:

  • Service is not complete until the mailing is done.

  • If you fail to mail the documents on the same day you post them, you will delay the client’s case.

As Proof grows, Unlawful Detainer jobs are becoming more frequent in CA, and need to be completed according to the client's instructions.
