Overview
Our enhanced address verification system helps provide the most accurate address information possible. We've integrated with a leading address verification service to give you real-time validation, helpful warnings, and additional address intelligence before submitting the job for service and before the first attempt.
Why accurate addresses matter: This feature is extremely helpful for situations where the process server needs a unit number to go to the right apartment or if a location requires a gate code to gain entry.
How Address Verification Works
Step 1: Smart Address Entry
When creating a new job, start typing your address in the address field. Our system will:
Provide intelligent suggestions as you type, showing verified addresses from our database
Auto-complete address details, including city, state, and ZIP code
Display a map view of the selected address so you can visually confirm the location
Step 2: Address Validation & Warnings
As you enter addresses, our system automatically validates them and provides helpful alerts:
Status Indicators You Might See:
Missing Information (orange badge): The address may be missing important details like a unit number
Needs Attention (yellow badge): Potential delivery issues such as:
PO Box addresses (may require special service methods)
Vacant properties
Addresses where USPS delivery may be restricted
These warnings help you make informed decisions about service strategy and set appropriate expectations. You can continue creating your job with address indicators even if the indicators require additional details.
Step 3: Unit Number Selection
For multi-unit buildings, you'll be prompted to:
Select from available units in the dropdown menu
Add a custom unit number if yours isn't listed
Mark as "not applicable" if no unit number is needed
Step 4: Additional Address Options
Add Address Notes (optional) Include important details like:
Gate codes or access instructions
Building entry procedures
Parking information
Special delivery instructions
Character limit: 150 characters
Add Backup Addresses (optional) Provide alternative addresses where the servee might be located:
Previous addresses
Work locations
Other known addresses
Backup addresses give our servers additional service locations. Please note that any backup address included would be a full additional address service charge should the process server attempt two or more addresses on the same job. Please review our pricing page for more information.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What should I do if I see a "Needs Attention" warning? A: Review the specific warning and consider contacting the assigned Proof Specialist on any active job with this warning, or contact support@proofserve.com if this appears before submitting the job for service. Needs attention could indicate an address we cannot service without additional information.
Q: Can I still submit a job if the address shows warnings?
A: Yes, you can proceed with any address. The warnings are designed to help you make informed decisions, not prevent job submission.
Q: What if the typeahead doesn't show my address?
A: Use the manual entry option to input your address. Our system will still validate it and provide available information about the location.
Q: Can I still add address notes to the job once I’ve submitted the job?
A: You will not be able to add an address note to a job once the job is submitted to Proof. Please chat on the job chat of the active job with your Proof Specialist to add information to the address.
Q: Can I add multiple backup addresses?
A: Yes, you can add as many backup addresses as needed to give our servers the best chance of successful service. Any additional address included and attempted would be a full service charge for that additional address.
Q: Will this change my service pricing?
A: No, address verification doesn't affect pricing. It's designed to improve service quality at no additional cost. Service pricing will only change if multiple addresses are attempted or if extra services are included.
Q: What happens to my address notes?
A: Address notes are shared with our service team to help them successfully complete service. They're also preserved in the service history for future reference.
