How to set up the Proof x Filevine Integration

This step by step guide walks through generating a personal access token (PAT) for v2 API users and generating API Keys for v1 API users.

Setting up the integration takes ~1 minute. If your firm migrated to Filevine's v2 API, you'll need to generate a personal access token (PAT) within Filevine and save it on Proof's web app in the integrations tab. If your firm is still using v1 API, please see the FAQ section at the bottom of this article.

For Filevine v2 API (PAT) users, here's how to get set up:

Part 1: Activate the Proof Integration in Filevine

  1. Sign in to your Filevine account

  2. Navigate to the Main Menu

  3. Open the Advanced tab

  4. Scroll down and open the Integrations tab

  5. Find the app "Proof: Nationwide Service of Process"

  6. Click Activate

Part 2: Generate a new service account email

  1. Open the Advanced tab

  2. Scroll down and open tab Service Accounts

  3. Choose your Org

  4. Click the +New button

  5. Give it a unique name

  6. Choose "all permissions"

  7. Click the "Create" button

  8. Write down the email associated with this service account. You will need it for the next step

Part 3: Generate a personal access token

  1. Open the Advanced tab

  2. Scroll down and open the Users and Activity tab

  3. Click on Access Tokens in the sidebar

  4. Click the +New button

    1. Create a unique name

    2. Select the service account email you generated in the prior section

    3. Toggle on "Filevine API Access"

    4. Click the "Create" button

  5. Copy the Personal Access Token generated

Part 4: Save your personal access token on Proof's Web App

  1. Sign in to the Proof web app at https://app.proofserve.com/

  2. Open the integrations tab

  3. Click "connect" on the Filevine widget. Note, you must be a firm admin user

    1. Select Filevine API v2 (PAT)

    2. Paste your Personal Access Token copied from Filevine

    3. Choose your Org Name (not sure, check the API Credentials tab in Filevine)

    4. Click "Connect to Filevine"

FAQ

  1. How do I know if my firm is using v2 API (PAT)?

    If you navigate to the Advanced tab in Filevine and can click on "Users and Activity" followed by a tab called "Access Tokens", you have access to v2 API (PAT)!

  2. How do I integrate if my firm is using Filevine v1 API (API Keys)?

    You'll need to generate and save API Keys rather than a personal access token. Read this guide to learn more.
